Do you also Have Prejudice against Bisexual People?
It is the nature of human beings to develop many myths and misconceptions on anything that they do not understand well. Sexual orientation is one such thing, and this is more so when it comes to bisexuality. Despite the fact that it has always been part of humanity, many misconceptions surround this topic and the following five are just some of them.
1. They are just confused
It is common for people to limit their thinking when it comes to sexual orientations. According to the majority view, you are either straight or gay, and so there is a misconception that bisexuals are just confused or a yet to figure out their sexual orientation. However, these are just delusions that come from lack of enough information on sexual orientations. Arousal studies by different institutions and medical research organizations show that both women and men will arouse people that identify as bisexuals.
2. Never happy in monogamous relationships
There is a common misconception that bisexuals will always be attracted by somebody new, but this could not be further from the truth. In recent years, there have been many studies on bisexuality, but not even one of them shows that bisexuals are more prone to cheating than straight or gay people. Statistics show that 60 percent of men and 40 percent of women will have an affair at least once in their lives at the time when they are married, and this is absolutely regardless of their sexual orientation.
3. Bisexuality is a phases
Most people tend to think that bisexuality is something that you may try a couple of times when in college, for example, as it is just a phase; however, this is one more misconception. A study by Psychology Today disputes this misconception as it concludes that very few ladies (8%) that identify as bisexuals during their adolescent years change this identity.
4. They are more prone to STls
Of all the bisexuality misconceptions, this is one of the most common and probably also the weirdest one. Any knowledgeable person knows that STls are a result of reckless frequent sex with different partners without protection and it has nothing to do with your sexual orientation. There is not even a single study that links bisexuality with an increase in the probability of contracting sexually transmitted diseases.
5. They have uncontrollable and very high sex drive
Bisexuality is not just about sex because bisexuals also have feelings and they fall in love, and want to be loved, and get married, and have a family of their own just like everybody else. People think that if you are bisexual, you will be attracted to every other person that you meet and want to sleep with them because your sex drive is very high. However, being bisexual doesn't mean being double horny; there is nothing factual about this because sexual orientation does not have anything to do with sex drive. The fact is that bisexuals, as a rule, are not more sexually active than straight people.
